Women work part-time

Three times as many women than men work part-time. Many of them want to have a full-time job, a new report from Fafo, Institute for Labour and Social Research, shows. According to the report 41.5 percent of women work part-time, for men the number is 12.9 percent.
Many of those that work part-time and want to work more, say they are not being offered that, says researcher with Fafo, Kristine Nergaard that has written the report. Norway is among the countries in Europe that has the highest level of part-time employees among the working population, despite political efforts on the contrary. Women have gradually increased their working time over the last decade. But there is little progress when it comes to equal working time for men and women. Many of the women work so-called long part-time, meaning they work more than 50 percent. Women are over represented as nurses, retail employees and waiters.
